Week 6 / Third Term
Presentation Practical and Project
Teaching outline
Lesson objectives
By the end of the week, learners should be able to:
- Plan a one-slide presentation covering a weekly topic.
- Create a title slide, body slide and closing slide.
- Present the material aloud for at least ninety seconds.
- Export the deck as a PDF for distribution.
- Submit a project folder with the deck, a written plan and a self-evaluation.
Key vocabulary
- Plan: the written outline of what the slide deck will contain.
- Title slide: the opening slide naming the project and presenter.
- Body slide: the slide carrying the main content points.
- Closing slide: the final slide summarising the takeaways.
- Self-evaluation: the learner's own assessment of strengths and weaknesses.
- Export: saving a copy in another format.
Common misconceptions
- "Presentation practice is just showing the slides again." Speaking aloud improves confidence and helps the learner adapt timing.
- "PDF export replaces the need to present." PDF is for distribution; presenting exercises delivery too.
- "The plan must match every slide perfectly." Plans allow some reordering while staying true to the topic.
Teacher activities
- Starter: play three recordings of learners presenting once each; ask which was most natural.
- Explain the project requirements: a deck plus a written plan and a self-evaluation.
- Model planning one slide deck on paper with a title, one body point and a takeaway.
- Run the practical creation task in pairs, circulating and giving quick feedback.
- Pair up learners and run thirty-second timed presentations.
- Collect the decks, plans and evaluations, then announce submission day.
Student activities
- Watch the starter recordings and identify the natural presentation.
- Plan a one-slide deck with title, body point and takeaway.
- Create the deck and rehearse speaking aloud for at least ninety seconds.
- Export the deck as PDF and confirm the file exists.
- Write a one-page self-evaluation stating strengths, improvements and next steps.
- Package the deck, plan and evaluation into one folder for submission.
Practical / learning evidence
A saved presentation deck, a written one-page plan and a self-evaluation note. All three submitted together for marking.
Resources and preparation
Computers with PowerPoint or Impress, blank templates, a project folder template and a print evaluation sheet. Prepare thirty-second timer cards and a seating plan for paired presentations.
Assessment for learning
Mark the deck for title, body and closing slides and consistent font. Evaluate the self-evaluation for honest reflection and a clear plan. Record pairs needing louder voices and schedule a follow-up rehearsal.
Inclusion and access
Allow extra time for writing the self-evaluation and let paired partners share the speaking role if solo delivery is difficult. Provide a recording template for learners who want to practice presenting to a recorder. Extend confident learners with a second slide comparing two presentation styles.
