Week 7 / Third Term
Mock Review and Targeted Revision
Curriculum outline
Lesson objectives
By the end of the week, learners should be able to:
- Review mock results against prior performance.
- Identify the three strongest topics and the three weakest topics.
- Revise the three weakest topics under timed conditions.
- Update the revision grid to reflect current confidence.
- Submit the revised grid, strengths and weaknesses together.
Key vocabulary
- Mock review: examining mock results against prior performance.
- Strong topic: a topic where recall is consistently above target.
- Weak topic: a topic where recall falls below target repeatedly.
- Timed conditions: a restricted time allowance for practice.
- Confidence: the belief in one's own ability to recall accurately.
- Revision grid: a matrix mapping weeks to topic and confidence level.
Common misconceptions
- "Mock results matter less than self-study." Mock results identify concrete weak areas to revise directly.
- "Everything learned must reappear in the revision." The revision focuses effort where retention is lowest.
- "A revised grid replaces old work entirely." The revised grid records refreshed confidence alongside prior levels.
Teacher activities
- Starter: display two mock score columns and ask which class does better overall.
- Share anonymous mock results and highlight the three weakest topics as targets.
- Revise the three weakest topics in a timed recall quiz.
- Model updating a revision grid cell by cell with current confidence.
- Announce the updated revision plan and the submission day.
- Close with the exit question comparing strengths and weaknesses.
Student activities
- Answer the starter and compare the two mock score columns.
- Identify your three strongest topics and note them.
- Revise the three weakest topics in a timed recall quiz.
- Update your revision grid cell by cell with current confidence.
- Plan two targeted improvements per weak topic.
- Submit the revised grid, strengths and weaknesses together.
Practical / learning evidence
A completed updated revision grid, the strongest topics list, the weakest topics list and the revision plan with two targeted improvements. All four submitted for marking.
Resources and preparation
Revised grid templates, sample strength and weakness lists and revision-plan templates. Offline route: paper versions, no device needed. Display mock results carefully and avoid exposing sensitive learner information.
Assessment for learning
Check the updated grid for refreshed confidence levels. Mark the strengths list for genuine strong topics. Evaluate the weakest topics for honest identification. Flag any learner who claims weak topics cannot improve.
Inclusion and homework
Provide the grid prefilled for the first cell and allow oral completion of the rest. Allow extra time on the timed quiz. Extend confident learners with four more topics and a seventh homework listing one strength and one weakness. Homework: update your revision grid once per day during the weekend.
